About
My name is Eden James, a Melbourne-based artist originally from Aotearoa New Zealand.
I am a multimedia artist with a keen interest in oil painting. My work focuses mainly on figurative art, where I aim to capture emotion and explore the interplay of light and form.
I grew up in a large, creative family. We moved frequently across New Zealand’s North Island and eventually over to the UK. These varied experiences have deeply influenced my artistic journey. From the rural life in Waikato, riding horses through the farmlands, to studying 2D animation in New Zealand’s largest city.
All of these environments and experiences have shaped my work in unique ways.
Though I’ve always had a passion for art, it wasn’t until the global pandemic of 2020 that I fully embraced painting. That time marked a turning point for me, sparking a deep, ongoing connection to my practice. Now based in Melbourne, my art practice has flourished. In September 2024, I presented my first solo exhibition, Letter to Loneliness, with many more exciting projects on the horizon.
